These are two book cover redesigns of “A Christmas Carol” and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” Both books have similar stories that follow the characters, Scrooge and the Grinch, who despise Christmas but eventually learn the spirit of Christmas and start enjoying it. I designed the cover in a way that attracts not only children but adults as well.
I was inspired by the silhouettes of shadows cast behind a figure and I thought it would work well with both stories as I see the main characters carrying these dark shadows behind them everywhere they go. Within the shadows, I wanted to be able to showcase certain parts of the stories without it being too busy and complex. So I’ve chosen to go with a flat, monochromatic illustration style that focuses on using silhouettes. In the flaps of the dust jackets, I wanted to showcase a before and after imagery and I utilized elements such as color, shapes, gradients, illustrations, and text to achieve something that isn’t too childish or mature and works to create an overall cohesive look and story.
